Let's hang up a pinata and bird cage....

We painted the dining room. Okay, Paul painted the dining room and I assisted. (He's so great). Anyway, we rolled the paint on and it looked like a beautiful shade of creamy yellow. Then it dried......and its brighter than we anticipated. My camera makes it look even worse - the completed pictures were taken at night.
I swear it looks lighter during the day when the sun streams into the room than it does when we turn on the ceiling light at night. Anyway - see for yourself. We aren't sure what to make of it. When we lived in North Phoenix a lot of homes around us were owned by Spanish people who enjoyed painting them bright colors. So Paul said we could hang up a pinata and a bird cage and it would be just fine! Infact HGTV says we need to embrace color! So maybe I'll add a few more pictures to the wall and some curtains to soften the effect.
Any ideas??

  1. I like it! It don't think it's too bold at all! It looks very warm and inviting to me.

  2. I really like it, too! I think that your idea of curtains or valances would be nice and would add a "softening effect" to the room. It's great!

  3. I can see where you think it's a little bright and if you still think it's that way, even after trying to embrace the color, I'd say to add a white wash over it; rubbing a white glaze over the top. It'll tone it down and not look all faux finishy.

And adding curtains/valances would be a great idea too! I've watched shows where the color looks horrendous (in my opinion) and then they add all the decor and furniture and then it looks awesome!

    So good luck!

  4. I think it looks really nice, especially with the crown molding. That is sad that it wasn't quite the color you were picturing though. Your sister's idea sounds interesting...never heard of that before.

  5. I know how frustrating it is to paint and not have it turn out exactly the way you invisioned it, but I do think it looks nice. It might just take you a couple of days to get used to the change in color. I love the idea of the pinata! I laughed so hard! You would have to get a new one every week because your kids would walk by and beat on it every chance they got... at least that's what my kids would do. :-)

  6. Our family room in our first house was painted twice and in this house 3 TIMES because I was not happy with the color. Not fun! I actually really like the yellow! I am thinking of doing our master bedroom yellow.

  7. It's hard to tell buy the pics what the color really looks like-I can't wait to see it when we come down next weekend. I would at least try to live with it for a week or so, then decide if it's 'grown' on you or not.
I love Paul's little comments about decorating. He's so funny.

  8. I think it looks great! Wow, you painted the ceiling? Mom and I weren't about to do that with all we had to do, but it looks nice! Paul is so hilarious!
